Dr. Peter Neumann (1956 – ) spent 35 years on the operational side of family-owned Engel, starting in the purchasing department after working for Siemans and machine builder Hurth.
From 1984 to 1994 while Neumann was Director of Sales and Marketing, he spearheaded a master plan to expand manufacturing and sales in the United States and Asia. Later, he became Chairman of Engel Korea and Hong Kong, growing sales to €200 million.
As President of Engel, Neumann led the firm to become the global leader in injection molding development with cost savings in platen technology, no-tiebar machines (<1000 tons), and EC88 and CC90 controls. By 2000, Engel sales had grown to €280 million.
As CEO from 2001 to 2016, Neumann oversaw the addition of factories and plants in Korea and China. By the time he handed over the reins to his nephew, Stefan Englender, sales had grown to €1.36 billion.
Neumann’s other accomplishments include serving as President of Euromap (European Committee of Manufacturers of Plastic and Rubber Machinery), a member of the board of VDI-Gesellschaft Kunststofftechnik (Association of German Engineers Society of Plastic Engineering), and the board of VDMA (the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association of Germany), and Vice President of the Federation of Austrian Industries.
Neuman holds a doctorate from the University of Vienna.
