Inducted 1979
Miller G. Sherwood (1916 – 1985) was an injection molding pioneer and developed many new plastics products for the automotive and appliance industries. He was known as a “helping hand” throughout the Midwest and served as an advisor on molding technology and molding management.
After graduating from the University of Michigan, Miller Sherwood worked with the molded plastics division of Reynolds Spring Company. In 1946, he founded Michigan Plastic Products, a custom molding company serving the automotive and appliance industries. His commitment to the plastics industry and his leadership abilities were not only instrumental in the growth of his company but also contributed to the growth and development of those who worked with him in his community and throughout the industry.
From its modest origins as a custom molder for the automotive and appliance industries, his company became one of Michigan’s largest plastic processing firms. He has built three plants, each one larger and more modern than its predecessor.
During his more than 30-year entrepreneurial career, he consistently demonstrated vision and a progressive interest in the advancement of the industry. Always keeping up with the most advanced technology in his quest for excellence, his company gained a reputation for quality. In addition to his commitment to producing high-quality products, he pioneered a new look for manufacturing plants in western Michigan, where he built innovative and attractive facilities. The new image in industrial architecture enhanced his community and the industry in general.
His lifelong devotion to his community spurred him to participate in a wide range of volunteer activities, from serving on school boards to the YMCA and Red Cross, to name just a few.
