Riley Gill

South Dakota State University

Plastics Hall of Fame Equipment Council Scholarship Recipient
South Dakota State University
Senior: Mechanical Engineering
Home: Hutchinson, MN

Since beginning university, Riley Gill has worked at Falcon Plastics, gaining practical experience in designing injection molds for various industries. In addition to design work, he has taken an active role in the maintenance and troubleshooting of the molds. While their primary focus has been on injection molding, Riley is also looking forward to expanding his skills in blow molding soon. Through work, he has learned 3D printing with ABS material for prototyping and production support. Outside the workplace, Riley continues to explore the craft as a hobbyist, using PLA materials to create functional parts and thoughtful gifts. This independent learning complements his professional work and deepens his knowledge of plastics processes.

Riley remains committed to academic excellence and is on track to graduate with a GPA above 3.5. His dedication to learning and personal growth has contributed significantly to his internship success and is preparing him for a promising career. In the long term, Riley envisions becoming a leader in the plastics field, with aspirations of launching a business centered on 3D printing or injection-molded products.

Financially, Riley bears full responsibility for his college expenses. This scholarship allows him to focus more on academics and community involvement. Riley is an active member of ASME and serves as treasurer and suspension co-lead for his university’s Formula SAE team—roles that require strong leadership and time management.
