Luke Orzechowski is a focused and forward-thinking student at Florida International University, where he is pursuing his academic and professional goals with purpose and energy. Known for his strong work ethic and collaborative mindset, Luke stands out as a motivated learner eager to contribute both in and out of the classroom.
His decision to attend FIU was inspired by the university’s emphasis on innovation, diversity, and real-world application. Since enrolling, Luke has actively engaged in coursework that challenges him to think critically and creatively, while appreciating the blend of hands-on experience and academic rigor the university offers.
Luke brings a passion for problem-solving to everything he does—from designing screw layouts for twin-screw extruders to mentoring fellow students. While interning at Ethicon Inc., he played a key role in optimizing the yield of a bioabsorbable polymer using twin-screw extrusion, which ultimately contributed to a patent and improved production efficiency. He was also a finalist in the company’s internal “Shark Tank” competition, where he pitched a concept for infection-detecting sutures using pH-sensitive dye—an idea driven by his commitment to practical innovation in healthcare. His efforts in the field were recognized with a Plastics News Rising Star award in 2024, a testament to his growing impact in the industry.
On campus, Luke remains deeply involved in student organizations, collaborative projects, and service initiatives. His approachable personality and communication skills make him a trusted teammate and a natural mentor.
Looking ahead, Luke is particularly excited about exploring ways to combine sustainability and technology. Through continued internships and applied research, he aims to address challenges in materials science and process engineering that contribute to more sustainable and responsible manufacturing practices. His long-term ambition is to build a career that helps bridge the gap between innovation and environmental responsibility.
