William Carteaux (1959 – 2018) was hired as PLASTICS President and CEO in February 2005. Before this prestigious appointment, he spent over 20 years in the plastics manufacturing sector. He came to PLASTICS from Demag Plastics Group, where he was president and chief executive officer. Carteaux previously served as the company’s executive vice president. Before joining Demag, he spent eight years with Autojectors, a leading manufacturer of vertical injection molding machines, as its president.
Born and raised in rural Indiana, Carteaux instilled a traditional blue-collar work ethic that he possessed and practiced throughout his career. His father was an electrician at International Harvester for more than 30 years. Carteaux worked the night shift as a line employee at a metalworking plant during high school. He spent summers as a material handler in a large manufacturing facility during college.
Carteaux earned an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a BS from Purdue, where he received several awards over the years. He also served as chair of the Council of Manufacturing Associations at NAM. He held a position on its Board of Directors. He was a past director-general of CIPAD, the Council of International Plastics Association Directors. Carteaux also served on the Board of Directors of four organizations: The Plastics Academy, the National Plastics Center and Museum, the Future of Plastics Foundation, and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Foundation. In 2015, William Carteaux was inducted into the Plastics Academy Hall of Fame, the youngest person to receive this honor.
In 2016, Bill Carteaux battled and initially beat leukemia and was appointed as the corporate chair of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Capital Area Light the Night events. Bill learned of the recurrence of leukemia on his 59th birthday, started chemo on his late mother’s birthday, and passed away on his late father’s birthday in 2018.
