Willi Müller (1937 – 2013) began his journey in 1952 as an apprentice in a specific discipline, the area of tool and die making. After learning the engineering side of die design and blow molding, Willi Müller became part of Technical Service, and then of the Sales Team of Johann Fischer Blow Molding Equipment.
He founded W. Müller KG in 1976, representing Johann Fischer in parts of Europe. This would develop into another company, W. Müller GmbH, that refurbished blow molding machines. Here, Willi Müller took advantage of his experience and knowledge and began designing extrusion heads that would become an industry standard. In addition, his development of one of the first “long stroke” blow molding machines made large volume production more efficient and effective.
He later sold the machinery end of the business to Battenfeld Fischer. He focused on extrusion head design and developed many other designs for products, including multi-cavity multi-layer continuous and accumulator extrusion heads.
One of his best tributes would be received in the form of a letter from Mr. Martin Stark, Chairman of the blow molding machinery manufacturer, Bekum, who wrote:
“As a lifetime career competitor of Willi’s, it is clear that he dedicated his life to the betterment and improvement of the Plastics Industry, and his impressive list of legendary accomplishments is a tribute to his efforts. It has been a challenge to work with and compete against Willi, and I am proud to support his nomination to the Plastics Hall of Fame”.
