A dedicated educator, researcher, and author, Dr. Robert A. Malloy (1956 – ) is a past department chair at one of the leading U.S. plastics engineering university programs and has trained many professional engineers. He holds 14 U.S. and many European patents. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 conference and journal papers in plastics engineering.
Dr. Malloy received his bachelor’s degree in plastics engineering from the University of Lowell in Massachusetts in 1979 and his doctorate in polymer science from that same university in 1987. He joined the University of Massachusetts at Lowell faculty in 1987. He served as chair of the Department of Plastics Engineering for fifteen years before retiring in 2016.
Dr. Malloy was the thesis advisor for more than 90 students in master’s or doctoral programs in Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering. Under his leadership, the Plastics Engineering program at the university prospered and expanded into new facilities.
Among his many professional activities, he has served as an Instructor at the Algerian Petroleum Institute, External Advisor at the Singapore Polytechnic Institute, and Instructor at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Dr. Malloy has been active in the Society of Plastics Engineers as a Fellow and presenter/organizer at many of its conferences. He also was the founding editor of SPE’s Journal of Injection Molding Technology.
