Dr. Eric Baer (1932 – ) is recognized as one of the world’s most widely known research engineers/scientists in polymeric materials. His pioneering research has provided the foundation for the materials science of polymers. This international recognition stems from his prolific work on solid-state structure-property relationships in polymers and their composites.
He has published over 350 research papers, edited five technical books, and served as the prestigious editor of the Journal of Applied Polymer Science. This weekly scientific and engineering publication has been acclaimed as the most important journal in the polymers and plastics field. Furthermore, he is now recognized as one of the founders of the emerging field of Biomimicry.
Dr. Baer immigrated to the United States in 1947, graduating from Baltimore City College two years later. He received his doctorate in engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1957. Ten years later, he helped create the first polymer science and engineering department at the Case Institute of Technology, where he was a professor. Dr. Baer became the dean of the Case Institute of Technology in 1978 but resigned five years later to focus on his passions: research and teaching.
Areas of Expertise:
