MTD Micro Molding
Inducted 2020
An established leader in miniature part design and molding, Tully (1960 – 2019) was the President and owner of MTD Micro Molding, a manufacturer of highly precise, specialized miniature parts for the medical industry.
Tully worked as a machine cleaner in high school at a tool and die shop. In 1978, he enrolled at UMass Lowell, entering its renowned Plastics Engineering program. Upon graduation in 1982, Tully went to work for ISM in North Carolina.
In 1989, Tully joined Miniature Tool & Die, a tooling company founded by his father. In the 2000s, he purchased the company and rebranded it as MTD Micro Molding, increasing its size by over 400% in ten years. MTD became known globally for its ability to produce miniature parts that few other companies could, including the world’s smallest known molded plastic part.
In 2011, MTD made the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing companies with a three-year % growth percentage of 228%. The company will be on the list again in 2017. Also, in 2017, MTD received a Manufacturing Excellence award from Worcester Business Journal, based on the company’s sharp focus on medical micro-molding, intimate knowledge of client needs, state-of-the-art processing, and continuous year-over-year growth. In 2019, MTD Micro Molding was named Processor of the Year by Plastics News after being a finalist for the award in 2015.
Tully’s legacy continues to grow with his company and is reflected in MTD’s Core Values, which he established in 2010.
