Peter Bemis (1947 – 2013) was an outstanding leader in plastics manufacturing technology and plastic product innovation. Bemis graduated from Carroll College, Helena, MT, with a BS in Business Administration and Economics. After graduating, he began working for his father’s business, Bemis Manufacturing as an office worker but soon ventured into the manufacturing aspects of the business. Not long before, he was promoted to manufacturing manager and developed his professional career as a business leader in plastics manufacturing. Peter Bemis eventually became the CEO and part-owner of the Bemis Manufacturing Company, headquartered in Sheboygan Falls, WI.
In his years of involvement with Bemis Manufacturing, Peter Bemis had focused on bringing the best-applied technology to their injection molding and extrusion operations. Peter was the inventor of nearly 30 patents related to the design and processing of plastic products. Bemis Manufacturing is known for its innovative processing techniques and expertise in co-injection and other advanced injection molding and extrusion processes.
They are perhaps best known for their innovative toilet seat products, many of which are produced using co-injection molding technology. They have also produced extruded and injection molded parts for the medical, automotive, furniture, appliance, and farm equipment industries.
Bemis was also active in several professional societies, including the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) and the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI – now PLASTICS), where he served on the Board. He also served as Board Chairman for the National Plastics Center. Bemis received numerous engineering and design awards during his career, including the 2009 International Plastics Design Competition Retail Award for an innovative plastic shopping cart design.
